Bespoke Engineering Designs has been offering machining and design services to customers in the UK for a very long time.
Owners Chris and James Quayle make a formidable team when it comes to finding ways of economically delivering small or large batches of parts using a variety of machine tools. Their workshop is truly an Aladdin’s cave of machine tools!
Long-time users of CNC machines, the pair were in need of an economical yet reliable VMC to take their capabilities to the next level. In 2018 they invested in the SYIL X7 fitted with LNC5800 controller, 12 tool ATC, and the 12000rpm spindle, and of course the 4th axis!
This was the first LNC 5800 based machine to be delivered in the UK. As expected, the investment has paid off!
Since delivery in early 2019, the machine has hardly seen a day of rest!
Probably the most improved SYIL CNC machine out in the wild currently, the team has been active in writing macros and modifying the PLC to allow them to automate production. Although some jobs that they complete are small quantity, the majority are greater than 20 parts. To be as efficient as possible, the team has integrated an aftermarket touch probe, a Pierson’s pallet system, a vacuum table, automatic doors, and an Accublast coolant system to boot.
As a favor to SYIL UK, they have demonstrated their machine to interested parties who have always been delighted with the results they have seen.
A huge thank you to the team also for sharing their knowledge and experiences with the various modifications and extensions to the functionality of the machine.
As with most owners, the materials processed on X7 vary across the spectrum, from hard tool steels, stainless steel, titanium, aluminum but their core work has been in machining polymers. Their customers include well-known motorsport companies, medical and scientific organizations as well as more commodity item manufacturers.
Recently the team has been machining microfluidic chips with endmills and drills as small as 0.3mm in diameter. At the prescribed accuracies needed, the team has had to actively monitor the spindle temperatures and add extra cooling to allow for the extremely long cycle times at 12000rpm. Not because of the reliability of the spindle but because of the thermal expansion!
"We are constantly impressed with the level of accuracy, precision and capability of the SYIL X7. With that in mind coupled with the incredible level of support we have received from SYIL UK’s manager, we can wholeheartedly recommend the Syil range of machines to anyone looking for a “top machine for an affordable price."
At the time of writing in 2021, the machine has completed in excess of 800hours of work with no warranty issues or failures. This of course is a testament to the build quality of the SYIL X7 but also the care that the team takes of their machines.
SYIL wishes Bespoke Engineering Designs continued success and thanks to them for all the support they have offered us too. We are extremely proud to be working with you.
