Customer Story: Nick Hulme - United Kingdom

Nick Hulme has been supplying the UK and global market with aftermarket firearm components since 2012 and through M9 engineering Ltd since early 2020.

A long-time follower of all things CNC and machining. he made the decision to invest in the SYIL X7 fitted with a Siemens 808D Advance controller for his move to a larger scale manufacturing venture, M9 Engineering Ltd. In 2018. This was the first Siemens 808D machine to be delivered with the assistance of the newly formed SYIL UK!

Since delivery in early 2019 the machine has hardly seen a day of rest!

As the workshop has not had 3 phase power installed, the machine runs off a Transwave rotary phase converter.

Few workflow improving modifications have been made to the machine to accommodate chip and debris clearance and some sheet metal work was undertaken to assist maintenance in the small workshop. Nick is definitely one to spend time making the perfect fixtures for his precision parts.

We have been extremely excited to work with M9 Engineering as they freely share their knowledge of CNC and special projects they are proud of.

Materials processed on SYIL X7 vary across the spectrum, from hard tool steels to all grades of stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, composites, and of course polymers.

Most jobs call for small tooling and the 12000rpm spindle has been a significant asset to that end.

Examples of the components created are Carbon Fibre plates for sight mounts, UK spec Section 1 LBP 1911 Magwells and firing pins, finish machining of non-round sections on Guide Rods and Barrel Bushings, various Safety Catches and Mag Release Mechanisms, and finish machining of slots and tip profiles on round firing pins.

"I was aware of George's (manager of SYIL UK) excellent reputation for quality engineering and excellent customer service prior to his involvement with SYIL, it was only his involvement which persuaded me to approach SYIL UK in regards to a VMC for my new venture. I have had outstanding service and support by SYIL UK and I would not hesitate to recommend them and their offering to any small, medium, or large company looking for an economical means of in-housing production”.

At the time of writing in 2021, the machine has had many uninterrupted hours of work with no mechanical or electrical failures. This of course is a testament to the build quality of the SYIL X7 but also the care Nicolas takes for his machine.
